History
Grandview was originally rural, known as Anderson District. It was named after John Anderson, who owned the first general store in the area.
John Anderson, Solomon Young (former President Harry S. Truman’s maternal grandfather), and Ervin Wallingford were inspired by the beauty of the landscape near Anderson’s store. Ervin saw it and asked his friends “Isn’t that a grand view?” His question was their inspiration for creating its name and in 1912, the city was born.
