History

The small city of Roeland Park was named after John Roe, an Irish immigrant. In 1883 he settled on 267 acres of land and in 1891, the Roe Home was built. Over sixty years later, in 1958, the house was razed to make room for a highway interchange at Roe Boulevard and Shawnee Rail Parkway.

That same year, the first pool facility was unveiled with permission from the Roe Estate to use their land. It has since moved east of the Community Center and is located at 4843 Rosewood Drive. The Community Center’s address is 4850 Rosewood Drive; it provides many programs throughout the year for its residents.
